AACC Launched New Chapter in Northern California

The Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce is developing local chapters in selected regions around the United States, starting with Northern California. Operating under the AACC organizational structure, including Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, the Northern California Chapter will offer its members a solid business platform to advance the goal of promoting member business connectivity and activity in Afghanistan.

MapThe Chapter will engage the Afghan business community and American companies in Northern California to network, collaborate, and invest in business in Afghanistan. Those businesses in the region currently engaged in Afghanistan today and those considering such engagement will be solicited for membership in the Chapter.

The AACC Northern California Chapter development is being led by area businessman and Interim Chapter President, Qasim Tarin. Mr. Tarin, who has worked on this issue for nearly two years with AACC’s Board, led by Director and Executive Committee member, William C. Joern, was elected to the AACC Board of Directors at the last AACC General Assembly in January of this year. Given his focus on creating an AACC West Chapter, Tarin was given the role of Interim Chapter President by the AACC Board. Mr. Joern led the Board in the creation of rules and procedures that would apply to chapter development whether in the Bay Area or elsewhere.

On October 2nd, 2011 Afghan American Chamber of Commerce Northern California Chapter was officially launched. AACC Chairman Sulaiman Lutfi, AACC President/CEO Don Ritter and Chapter Development Chair William Joern traveled from Washington DC to initiate the unveiling of the AACC Northern California Chapter.

The new AACC Northern California Chapter Interim Leadership team was put in place. They are Qasim Tarin-Interim President, Homayoun Rahnoma-Interim Vice President, Mizgon Zahir Darby-Interim Treasurer, Sultan Sayed-Interim Secretary. In three months, voting members will select full term administrative officers for the Northern California Chapter.

AACC believes strongly that the road to stability in Afghanistan is through commerce, business and the job creation that results from a growing legitimate market economy. AACC members, friends and other interested persons are encouraged to inform AACC of their interest in developing local chapter. Given what will be a continuing important role of the U.S. in Afghanistan, potentially more economic than military in the future, we expect that there will be substantial interest in joining up with AACC.
