NDU - AACC symposium, designed to focus on practical ways in which an indigenous private sector/commercial approach to economic development in Afghanistan can yield sustainable results.

The consensus of the assembled that those circumstances needed to change with the business community essentially unified on the idea that some form of reasonably independent capacity/institution, with a defined mission to focus on the economy and related policies, practices and resources, is needed.

Important policy matters were raised regarding access to capital; top-down vs. bottom-up approaches on Donors’ part; projects, contracts and grants vs. supporting the market economy directly; financing and building the licit Ag economy via the private sector; removing incentives for corruption; simplifying governance and last but not least, the need to consult more closely with the business community who have experience on the ground in Afghanistan when creating policies and programs.
