Yama Yousefzai is the CEO and President of the acclaimed Noor TV Afghan television station based out of Pleasanton, California. Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Yousefzai spent his early childhood experiencing and adapting to the rich culture of his native land. However, like millions of other Afghans, Yousefzai and his family were forced to flee their homeland after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. They lived in Peshawar, Pakistan for approximately 6 years, until finally settling permanently in California in 1988. After successfully completing his secondary education, Yousefzai enrolled in the University of California, Irvine, where he earned a B.A. in Psychology and Cognitive Science. Yousefzai remained close to his Afghan roots by becoming the President of UCI’s Afghan Club, where he actively participated in events and causes to help his native homeland of Afghanistan. His pursuit of education landed him in Thomas Jefferson’s School of Law, where he worked as an assistant to a Public Defender. However, his true passion lay with his homeland, and after a year of attending law school, Yousefzai decided to drop out of law school and instead pursue his life long aspiration of establishing a connection with Afghanistan and the thousands of Afghans living in the United States. On August 1, 2007, Yousefzai’s dream became a reality when Noor TV first appeared on television screens. Noor TV became the first Afghan satellite television station to be broadcast out of Northern California and today, has quickly become one of the most popular Afghan satellite television stations available.
