R. Michael Smith is a member of the law firm of Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger & Hollander, LLC in Baltimore, Maryland, where he specializes in labor and employment law. Mike has done pro bono work for Afghanistan, which has included leading a team that helped draft a new labor and employment law code for the nation and representing Afghans detained at Guantanamo Bay and the country in litigation in the U.S. Mike also serves on the Advisory Board of the Initiative to Educate Afghan Women and participates in the Public-Private Partnership for Justice Reform in Afghanistan. Mike earned a juris doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School, an LLM degree from Georgetown University Law Center, and a bachelor of arts degree from Colgate University.
